"what happens when there's no paintings on the wall?” a question that metaphorically speaks to the bigger picture (Excuse the pun)
During these unprecedented times, where rules, laws and regulations are being enforced on us en mass. Local Healer and Louis Cypher worry we’re losing social cohesion, our sense of community, and that even our fundamental right to create and share art and culture is at jeopardy. This EP is a reminder that there is more to life than rules and the monotony of the gig economy and zero hour contracts. Art and culture are the very fibre of what gives our lives meaning.
"Renaissance" deals with many emotions; specifically the ups and downs that we currently deal with, it's like looking at different paintings in a gallery and seeing three different perspectives projected through their own unique lenses. There’s no one answer, what is for certain however is that art and culture are all thought-provoking and that process is both intrinsic to the well being of society AND economically viable .
Connecting with Antwerp based producer Faux Sala, the Notts lads found their common ground and immediately shared their vision. The dreamy beats provide the perfect palette for the rappers to exhibit their art form on. Faux Sala’s production is the canvass, harping back to the days of 90’s Boom Bap, with jazz infused samples and smooth drums.
Local Healers and Ty Healy referenced the Banksy artwork in their video for lead single “Renaissance” filmed and directed by local poet and music video director, Michael Markham at Bentinck Studios in Radford just minutes away from the aforementioned street art
alongside many other Nottingham artists. The label put forth a crowd funder for the cause of supporting art, already raising over £4000 it proves that the people do care and music, art, and culture are needed.
